Sydor Collects USCAA Offensive Player Of The Week Award

MEDIA, Pa. -- Alex Sydor (White Plains, N.Y./Ardsley) was selected as the Division II Offensive Player of the Week by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association on Tuesday after leading the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team to a championship during its home tournament last weekend.

Sydor, who was named MVP of the Bill Denney Memorial Tournament, scored three times and assisted on the fourth goal as Brandywine rallied to defeat Bryant & Stratton-Albany 4-3 in the title match Sunday afternoon.

After opening the scoring during the 10th minute, Sydor netted a pair of second-half goals. First he tied the score at 3-3 before adding the go-ahead goal off a corner kick with just over 10 minutes to play in regulation.

Sydor also assisted on Tyler Skaer's (Brookhaven, Pa./The Christian Academy) goal that brought the Lions to within 3-2 early in the second period.

Through six matches this fall, Sydor owns the team lead in points (11) and goals (5). He is tied for the USCAA Division II goal-scoring lead and ranks second in total points.

Brandywine (4-1-1) begins a stretch of three matches in four days on Thursday at Albright (7:00 pm).
