Brandywine Races Past Beaver; Plays For Fifth-Straight PSUAC Title Wednesday

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Top-seeded Penn State Brandywine scored three goals in each half as the Lions bested No. 4 Penn State Beaver 6-2 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Semifinals on Saturday night.

With the victory, Brandywine advanced to the PSUAC Championship for the fifth-straight time. The Lions have won four-straight and six of the last seven conference titles. Brandywine's opponent Wednesday will be Penn State Lehigh Valley, the No. 2 seed that recorded a 5-1 victory over Penn State New Kensington earlier in the day.

Brandywine received goals from five different scorers, while Ethan Harper (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) contributed three assists and Kyle Reuter (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) tallied assists on a pair of goals. Alex Sydor (White Plains, N.Y./Ardsley) recorded two goals to up his USCAA-leading total to 25.

Joey Cairy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) headed in a corner kick of the foot of Axel Ayllon-Ortiz (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) for the game's first goal at the 6:20 mark, but Beaver found the equalizer just four minutes later.

Sydor beat a pair of defenders and found the lower-right corner of the net to put the Lions on top for good during the 32nd minute. Alexis Cordova Bernal (Oxford, Pa./Avon Grove) added Brandywine's third goal of the opening half 3:37 later.

The offense was not done as Ethan Pace (Stowe, Pa./Pottsgrove) struck just 2:10 into the second half to up the margin to 4-1. Sydor notched his second goal of the night at the 52:47 mark, while Nick Gaither (Boerne, Texas./Samuel V. Champion) capped the Lions' scoring in the 73rd minute.

Brandywine outshot Beaver 21-4 and received one save from John Simpson (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter), who claimed the win in net after playing all 90 minutes.

Brandywine advances to face Lehigh Valley at 4:00 pm Wednesday at the West Campus Turf Field in State College. The teams played to a 0-0 draw in Allentown during a September meeting.
