Joey Cairy Named To Academic All-Area Team
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine men's soccer senior Joey Cairy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) was selected to the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team on Monday.
Cairy was one of 11 men's soccer student-athletes from the 30 institutions in the Greater Philadelphia area to earn the award. The PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team recognizes student-athletes for performance on the field and in the classroom.
A 2021 Second Team United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American, Cairy led Brandywine to its second USCAA National Championship in four years. He was one-of-six Lions named to the USCAA All-Tournament Team following the championship.
Cairy finished the 2021 season with a career-best 32 points, good for second on the team, while landing his third First Team All-Penn State University Athletic Conference selection. He notched 12 goals and eight assists during 22 games this fall.
During his 61-match career, Cairy totaled 27 goals and 21 assists for 75 points. He helped Brandywine capture three conference championships and the campus' first two USCAA national championships.
A human development and family studies major, Cairy owns a 3.38 grade-point average. He is a three-time PSUAC All-Academic Team honoree and earned USCAA National Academic Team honors in 2019.
